Thies de Groot
- Graduation work
Aangenaam Verschillend
Thies de Groot is a graphic designer who makes stories visual. He has a strong interest in concepts and the ideas behind design. Whenever possible, he tries to make a positive contribution to society through his work.
His essay on difference, polarization, and graphic design sparked the need for a positive response to the subject. This project therefore celebrates human difference instead. For the project, Thies photographed people from the streets of Groningen and invited them to reflect on their own characteristics.
In an animated installation, similarities and differences come together. The four screens together form a face. Eyes, noses, and mouths from different people create strange and sometimes funny combinations.
Alongside the installation, he presents a series of posters in which people literally carry their own characteristics with them. Through a positive and celebratory visual language, the project shows how human difference can also be something that connects us.
