graphic design groninger beeldende stipendia

Deadline: 15 December 2025

Are you a visual artist or designer, do you work in Groningen, and are you younger than 35? Then you can apply for the Groninger Visual Arts Stipends 2026 starting November 18. The stipends give two promising artists the unique opportunity to further develop their artistic and professional practice.

You can apply for one of two stipends: Land or Horizon. Both stipends are intended to be used to create new work in the North or abroad. The stipends consists of a fee of €10,000 and a working budget of €10,000. This is linked to the Artist in Space program, in collaboration with Noordenaars, worth €12,500.

The grants are linked to the Artist in Space program of Noordenaars, a platform for presentation institutions in the Northern Netherlands consisting of 16 organizations. For one year, you will be guided in the further development of your practice, make use of the network, expertise, and facilities of Noordenaars, and collaborate with other participating artists.

About the Groninger Visual Arts Stipends

The Groninger Visual Arts Stipends are awarded annually to stimulate the artistic development and cultural entrepreneurship of promising visual artists and designers starting out in the city of Groningen. The grants encourage the creation of new work that can make a meaningful contribution to contemporary art in the Netherlands. The Groninger Visual Arts Stipends have existed in their current form since 2023 and are funded by the Municipality of Groningen.

There are two grants available:

Land – local focus

This grant encourages artists to work in the Groningen area and the northern Netherlands. This can be done, for example, by researching this area, working on location, addressing social and societal issues, and/or collaborating with local communities. Through the Artist in Space program, you gain access to the network, knowledge, and facilities of the Noordenaars.

Horizon – international focus

This grant encourages artists to spread their wings and develop (part of) a project abroad. You start with preliminary research in the North and then work on a project abroad, such as a residency, collaboration, or presentation. At the end of the program, you return to the North to share your results and acquired knowledge with the local public and cultural field. Through the Artist in Space program, you gain access to the network, knowledge, and facilities of the Noordenaars.

Artist in Space program – guidance and network

As a winner of Land of Horizon, you will participate in the Artist in Space program, a unique talent development program. This program offers:

  • Artistic and professional guidance
  • Collective meetings with other scholarship recipients
  • A budget (vouchers) with which you can fill in parts of your program at Noordenaars organizations, such as a research period, residency, production phase, or a presentation.

Through the collaboration with the Municipality of Groningen, Kunstpunt Groningen, and Academie Minerva, you will receive sustainable support for the development of your artistic practice.

In 2026, the Noordenaars scholarships and the Groninger Beeldende Kunststipendia will be awarded in parallel. Both have their own conditions and allowances. Double applications are not permitted. Read more about the Noordenaars scholarships here.
