Maar waar kom je echt vandaan?
Yasmin Hasan is a visual artist and teacher. In her practice, she reflects on society, starting from personal stories and events. Her work is situated at the intersection of autobiography and collective experience: the individual story serves as a mirror for themes that often remain underexposed.
Hasan primarily creates photographic and multidisciplinary work in which vulnerability, memory, inequality, and identity play an important role. By addressing subjects stemming from her own lived experience, she creates space for awareness, dialogue, and connection.
Her working method is investigative and experimental. Each project begins with an in-depth exploration of a theme, after which she investigates which visual language, form, and materials are most appropriate. A combination of text and photography often forms the basis, but she combines this with other media to add layers. By weaving text and image together, a field of tension arises between the visible and the unspoken.
