Keratomileusis

Eyes, staring at you across the room, following your moves, so expressive and alive, making you feel like there is a real presence behind them. Their feelings, almost audible, their stillness, so lively.

‘Keratomileusis’, from Greek, corneal reshaping, is a visual story in the form of a graphic novel, of size 500mm x 700mm. It portrays the artist’s biggest fear and the intense experience of an awake FemtoLasik procedure, full of risks and uncertainty. She decided to work with linocut technique to convey the sense of dread, creating rough, line based visuals, making the designs dynamic, applying significance and impact to every angle and curve. Each line with a purpose, each engraving irreversible.
The style of her work is inspired by the Japanese art of manga, focusing on the horror genre. Through researching Japan, the language, the culture and visual communication, she embodies her perceptions in her artistic practice and creation.
