Memento Vivere

About not forgetting to live your life and being present in a rushing world.

As a designer, I approach life with curiosity and a grounded mindset, drawing inspiration from my environment and everyday experiences. I enjoy working with bold colours and contrast to create energy, emotion and impact.

Over the past years, tattoos became something that kept drawing my attention. I set myself the goal this year to explore this theme and linked it to the upcoming motivation in my life of ‘memento vivere’, which means “don’t forget to live your life.” It is the opposite of a line you probably do know: ‘memento mori’, which means “remember that you will die.” For me, Memento Vivere is the message I want to share as I prefer to live life in an optimistic way. Therefore, this message is of importance to myself, but I believe it is a narrative that many other people can benefit from.

Many individuals may relate to the struggle of finding meaning in a routine-driven life. For those, I was inspired to explore the stories behind people with flower skull tattoos, a symbol that often reflects this contrast between life and death. I conducted interviews and let myself be guided by their personal stories, each offering a different perspective on life, loss, and presence.

Through photography, text, silkscreen prints, and graphic work, I want to share these stories with you in a collected form. Together, they merge in a graphic book that brings these perspectives into one narrative. The appearance of this book, as well as my presentation at The Graduation Show, reflects the contrast between the darker meaning of memento mori and the opposite: a vibrant memento vivere.
