PICTOMOJI

PICTOMOJI is a symbolic visual language that combines the structure of Mayan Script with the style of modern emojis into one grammatical system. It was created to help people learn new languages from scratch in an easier way by visually showing how words fit together in sentences and how such language is structured, which makes it easier to understand, visualize and remember in the long run.

During this exhibition, PICTOMOJI will be tested in an interactive experiment that will focus on how people engage with this visual language through games and how they interpret their results. The participants will be guided through the process by playing 3 simple games in a specific order:

- (1) Memory Cards: the connection between words and symbols is made.

- (2) Building Blocks: time to apply the connection made and experiment with the symbols and their meanings.

- (3) Magnets: the result is shared for the next players to see.

This project grew out of my own struggles with learning new languages and understanding how grammatical structures work in writing and speech. It combines my passion for design and illustration with science, experimentation, and a curiosity for discovering new ways of learning. So… Are you ready to learn?
