I taught myself how to sew
Petra Szuszkó is a maker with immense curiosity and an unending desire to learn. In her work she uses many techniques and is eager to experiment. In this project the discipline she decided to dive into and teach herself is sewing, having had a life long interest in textiles. With no prior knowledge on how to use a sewing machine or draft a pattern, the work comes to life by the imperfections of the learning proccess. She created a jester costume as her most elaborate piece, representing the fun you can have while learning. A fitting character considering the irony of being an autodidact for her graduation project. What the experience of teaching herself proved is that there is always hope in creativity and you have the freedom to just try from a different perspective.
She thinks one of the best thing about learning something is that, then, you can share that knowledge. Therefore, to satisfy her curiosity and widen her knowledge further by talking and connecting with others, during the graduation show she invites visitors to join her in a sewing workshop, where people can share their experiences with autodidacticism and discuss what they are curious to know more about or learn to do, while making keychains together.
