Mercy to the guilty
Nero’s work is build on a precarious three-way of mark-making, perfectionism and a drive to tell a story. Often the figures features are calm, almost expressionless, unaware of the world they look into, but beneath this surface layer of silence lie much stormier waters of storytelling and a desperation to express oneself. But for them, the biggest question is--- What do you see?
This particular project is a different form of the struggle he faced within himself. The drive for expression, storytelling, and a craving to be understood where he fails with words, all accumulated to form this narrative project. The repeating narrative is an alegory for the repeated attempts to connect with others, both through his art and through communication, and the art around the text is an acceptance of both his illustration and fine-art work.
