Bestiarium of the soul

My name is Natalie; I’m a folkloric artist that creates sculptures from the dark night of the mind. I focus mainly on creature design mixed with illustration and a little bit of taxidermy. The purpose of them is to make symbolism more tangible in a world that is slowly losing its rituals. I use a combination of materials, ranging from real animal bones and skulls to clay and 3d print. Each sculpture tells its own story based on my personal interpretation and academic research. A little fun fact about me is that I’m supportive of animal welfare, even though I use dead materials. Most of the bones and skulls are either found in nature or second hand. I give the dead a second life in a way.

For my graduation project I’m making 3 different sculptures. Even though they all belong in the same universe, they each tell their own story through expression, symbolism and metaphor.

In order they are: The werewolf mummy, the lunar unicorn and the Pied Piper rat.  The theme will be ‘medieval symbolism’ as I have always been inspired by medieval folklore and art.

If you are interested in folklore, horror or even if you aren’t into it, feel free to come see my work.
