Nadine Bolhuis (2000, Groningen) is an art educator and lives and works in Groningen. In her work, emotion is not a secondary matter, but the starting point of everything she does. When there is no feeling, no work is created. She expresses her emotions in paintings, spatial works, and poems. Each medium offers a different way to make her emotions visible. Her feelings translate into materials and patterns reminiscent of nature. Not because she wants to depict nature literally, but because structures such as repetition, growth, and layering help her give form to her emotions. Colors like blue and green seem to emerge naturally in the work. Her practice is an ongoing process. A work is never an endpoint, it forms a starting point for a new work. Ideas build upon one another, just as emotions follow one another. She is deeply concerned with inequality of opportunity, particularly the difference between the highly educated and the less educated. Because she has experienced this herself and is still confronted with it daily, it is an important theme for her. She is currently working on a game, among other things, and writing poetry to open up conversations. As an artist and teacher, she believes that art should be for everyone. Therefore, she does not dictate her work to the viewer. She leaves room for personal interpretation, so that everyone can recognize their own story and feelings.
