- Graduation work
“-Love, Grandma”
My name is Monika, and I am a 22-year-old designer from Bulgaria, currently living between two countries. Living abroad deeply influenced my design practice, making topics like homesickness, nostalgia, belonging, memory, and identity my main source of inspiration.
This graduation project started from a very special place in my heart — the memory of my grandmother, who always managed to gather my family around the table. Growing up, I never realized how meaningful those ordinary moments truly were. While working on this project, I began to understand that the table was never just about food.
It was a place where identity, care, tradition, and memory were passed from one person to another.
Through this project, I aim to explore the act of sitting together as something deeply human. At its core, the project is both an exploration and an invitation. Every person carries their own story, culture, grief, rituals, and way of caring for others. By sharing my own story first, I invite others to reflect on the people, meals, and moments that shaped them, and to value the time we get to spend together, since we never know how long we get to do it.
