Design - Spatial Design

Healing Architecture

Mara Rodà is a spatial designer interested in the relationship between architecture, atmosphere, and human well-being. Her work explores how light, materiality, movement, and sensory perception shape the way people emotionally and physically experience space. Inspired by personal experiences and interdisciplinary research, she combines environmental psychology, biophilic principles, and human-centred design to create environments that feel calming, immersive, and emotionally supportive. She is particularly interested in healthcare and therapeutic spaces, investigating how architecture can improve experiences of vulnerability, stress, and care through thoughtful spatial interventions.
""Healing Architecture"" reflects this design approach through a project that rethinks communal hospital spaces as active parts of the healing process rather than emotionally stressful environments. Focusing on corridors, waiting rooms, and entrance areas, the project investigates how spatial design can influence psychological well-being within healthcare settings. Developed through both lived experience and research into healing environments, the project proposes a manifesto based on six principles: Nature, Care, Safety, Comfort, Flow, and Connection. Through atmosphere, natural elements, spatial clarity, material choices, and sensory experience, the project envisions hospitals as spaces that can reduce stress, support emotional well-being, and contribute to a faster and more positive recovery process.
