Een luisterend lichaam
Luna Jongsma works within media art, developing interdisciplinary installations and performative works that explore sensory perception through sound, light, and the body.
For her graduation project, she created an installation that allows people to experience music without sound. The work emerges from her position as an artist who is experiencing hearing loss, and from a personal concern about the possibility of losing access to music. This led her to question how music can still be experienced when hearing is no longer the main way of engaging with it.
The installation translates musical elements into visual and physical experiences. Sound is transformed into a choreography of vibration, shifting the focus from listening with the ears to experiencing music with the whole body. Visitors are invited to engage with music through vibration and physical presence, opening up a different way of understanding what music can be.
The work reflects on music as something that can be felt and experienced beyond sound, and explores the idea that musical experience does not have to disappear when hearing does. Visitors are placed in an environment where music is not something that is heard, but something that is felt and physically experienced, creating a different understanding of what music is and how it can exist.
Overall, the work reflects on music as something that is not limited to sound, but can also exist through the body and other senses. It explores how accessibility and personal experience can reshape the way music is understood and related to.
