Digital(Physical) Garden
We live in a world of dualisms, where what is artificial replaces the natural, what is digital, invades the physical. In effect, it becomes impossible to distinguish the real from the fake, which for me, is both confusing and fascinating. In my work I intend to bring these different worlds together, instead of putting them against each other. Through the digital I want to reconnect with the physical. Through the artificial I want to understand the natural.
My process starts as an observation of local environments, which I later transform using digital processes, sculpture-making and performative actions. I am interested in the stories that the land can tell us, retelling them through my own perspective and cocreating them, with the land itself.
My Digital(Physical) Garden emerged from a local specie of flower, Anemonoides nemorosa, which I digitized, transformed and replicated, creating a new, digitally made plant, that has found its place here. It is never steady, but rather moves with everything that surrounds it – the rain, the sun, the wind, the soil and the creatures that live in this soil. It grows together with the birds that fly over it, the dogs that run around it, and the people who come to see it. The visitors, too, are invited to come into the garden and help transforming it together.
