Every Woman Has a Story to Tell
Hanna Jovanov primarily works with video, often incorporating documentary elements into her practice. She explores underlying social and psychological themes. Her work is rooted in observation and atmosphere through the use of layered narratives and visuals.
“Every Woman Has a Story to Tell” explores womanhood through fragmented imagery, personal archives, and testimony. The work reflects the loss of youthful innocence and the gradual construction of female identity within systems of surveillance, expectation, fear, and social conditioning. How do external pressures settle into the body and mind, gradually accumulating, restricting, and infiltrating everyday life?
Blurring the line between autobiographical experience and shared consciousness, the project functions as an evolving archive of inherited and lived memory.
The work examines how womanhood is shaped not only through lived experience, but also through cultural repetition, where personal memory dissolves into a broader collective consciousness.
