Illustration & Animation Design

“BORROWED THINKING”

Gabriela Solomon(2004) is an illustrator and designer interested in spatial storytelling, material exploration, and handcrafted image-making. Her practice combines illustration with three-dimensional installation, often using paper and cardboard to create playful yet carefully constructed environments. Inspired by window display design, she is drawn to colour, layering, depth, and the relationship between objects in space. Through making, experimentation, and intuitive sketching, her work explores how illustrations can move beyond the flat surface and exist physically within an environment.

"BORROWED THINKING’’ is a decorative 3D installation that reflects on the growing presence of AI within education and everyday life. By recreating digital themes through fragile, hand-built paper constructions, the work contrasts the speed and effortlessness of AI-generated content with slowness, materiality, and physical labour. The installation invites viewers to pause, observe, and reflect on their own relationship with AI, questioning where the line lies between support, dependence, and creative loss.
