Elisabeth Debeye is a socially engaged artist-educator. She has a background in illustration and creates very diverse work. Some favorites include printmaking, painting, working with fabric and varying digital media. The starting point of this work is often a (social) question or theme, such as artivism, art in public space or simply “what is art?”. In recent years, Elisabeth has delved into accessibility of both art and art education, with a focus on youth. She likes to challenge people and seeks out interaction between the viewer and the work. After finishing her studies in design, Elisabeth was motivated to put her interests to use in the educational field. This led her to do a second bachelor’s in art-education. Her vision about teaching centers around the autonomy of the students and her goal is to encourage creative and critical thinking. Elisabeth believes in trial and error in order to develop new skills and to dare to create and express and wishes to share this with her students. All this comes together in her graduation project: an innovative tour about graffiti, streetart and art in the public space.
