Cultural Symbiosis

“Ritual is to the soul what water is to the body.” Deborah’s work explores themes of rituals, lost traditions, cultural identity, and belonging. Rooted in her Slovak upbringing, her illustrations reflect the yearly cycle of traditions and the significance rituals hold in everyday life.

As a designer working with graphics and illustration, she uses a variety of media to create visual narratives in which nature often takes on the role of storyteller. Natural elements, deeply connected to Slovak symbolism, are transformed into metaphors that invite interpretation by the viewer. Through ornaments and patterns, her illustrations combine elements from both Slovak and Dutch cultures. Forming a dialogue between memory and present.
