Let there be Matriarchy!
My project “Let there be Matriarchy!”consists of five distinct pieces that come together as a church altar.
Because I consider myself a feminist, this project aims to celebrate women, to offer them a place to be seen, recognized and to raise awareness on how women are viewed in Christian and Greek mythology. By considering those myths as a starting point of Patriarchy, I wanted to explore a world in which the position of power would switch from men to women. In short, I researched those stories from a feminist point of view and I aim to create a Matriarchal universe.
Visually, this project comes together as a collection of different techniques that I mastered throughout the years I studied at Minerva. I consider that by combining painting, ceramics and printing techniques together, each piece becomes an artefact through the details it holds. This attention to detail places my work in a religious context.
The work is displayed in a carefully chosen location so the viewer can be fully emerged in it. The overall ambiance of the work gives the audience a warm hug through the natural light and shape.
