Het Normaliteitenkabinet

Babette Vegter  is an illustrator based in Groningen.

In her work, color and form play a central role. She uses these elements as tools to explore and visualize everyday situations and perceptions. Her work is accessible and direct. You quickly see what you are looking at, but beneath the surface there is often a subtle layer of reflection, sometimes with a sharper perspective on reality.

Babette finds it important to create accessible work in which images are clear, but in which there is always something left to see.

In her project Het Normaliteitenkabinet, she explores how we perceive objects in everyday life. What happens when we take the time to truly look again and not only see? In our daily perception, objects often become intertwined with learned ideas about beauty, value, and meaning.

By distorting and enlarging objects, the focus shifts to things that normally go unnoticed. This creates space to pause and reflect on form, detail, and presence. In this way, beauty can become visible in places where we might not normally expect it.

This work is about slowing down and relearning how to look. It is about becoming aware of how we perceive the world around us, and opening up space for a different way of seeing the everyday.
