"Wings of Straw"

    Anna-Maria Micheva is an animator and concept artist from Bulgaria. She has a lot of passion for combining analog and digital mediums in her work. Her biggest inspiration takes place back in her childhood, when she first starts watching animated movies by Disney and Pixar. Now in her projects she always finds a way not only to tell a story, but to also teach the young viewers a life long lesson. Spreading a message through unique characters and captivating story lines is essential for Anna-Maria’s work, since she believes that is what makes the industry so special.  

""Wings of Straw""
     “Wings of Straw” is a 2D animated short film, telling a story about a brave dreamer - the scarecrow. In the beginning we get introduced to the main character literally “chasing” his wildest wish, to be able to fly like the crows he has been seeing glide in the air, happy and free. However, dreaming big is never an easy task, if you have to do it on your own. And that’s why Anna-Maria gives her character a little push by creating a supportive friend - the crow. Together they both come up with a whimsical solution and the scarecrow gets a little bit closer to what he has always wanted, to be free as a bird…
     The movie was created after an extensive research on multiple different parts of the animation pipeline. Drawing inspiration from artists like Aaron Blaise (for the animation part), Daniel M. Tal (for the storyboarding) and Rita Hsiao (for the script writing) really made this project possible by giving Anna-Maria all the answers she was searching for, making the process faster and less complicated. 
     All this gets gently tied together by the beautiful soundtrack of Lorenzo Viscomi and Reinis Baltinš.
