The Constraints of Consistency
This work examines how industry regulations and expectations restrict material innovation, limiting creativity and curiosity. By prioritizing efficiency and uniformity, we've lost the freedom to explore materials intuitively. The Constraints of Consistency is made from recycled textiles combined with a natural binder, developed by Erdtsieck, that can be recycled up to 150 times after its original use. This material-driven approach challenges stagnation in the industry, advocating for a design process that allows textiles to shape their own potential and reclaiming the lost possibilities of sustainable material innovation.
