Where Roses Bleed

Sylwia Jackowska is an emerging artist from Warsaw, Poland, who recently graduated in Graphic Design from Academie Minerva in the Netherlands. While educated in graphic design, she chose to take a more unconventional path for her graduation project, using animation as a medium to tell a deeply political and emotional story.

Her work, "Where Roses Bleed", is a haunting visual journey that exposes the hidden exploitation within the global flower industry. By tracing the life of a single rose from seed to sale, she unveils the environmental destruction, gendered labor abuse, and capitalist contradictions that often go unnoticed behind a seemingly innocent gesture.

Blending intimate close-ups, evocative imagery, and discomforting sounds, the animation aims to challenge the viewer’s perception of beauty, consumption, and complicity. Through this project, Sylwia uses her voice to raise awareness and start conversations, proving that design, in all its forms, can be a powerful tool for change.
