Derde Ruimtes (Third Spaces)
Originally, this project began as conversations with my therapist about how spaces can hold very strong feelings and how difficult it can be to let go of those emotions. "derde ruimtes" (on letting go) is a project that attempts to visualize the process of releasing those feelings.
The images shown are taken in my hometown—a place connected to many of the negative aspects of my transition and my realization of being queer. Some of these locations were very significant, others not at all. By depicting these extremes, I hope the viewer can enter a sort of "derde ruimte" (third space), essentially taking away any power those places had over me.
