I'm Rixt (2001), an artist-educator from Stavoren, based in Groningen. My work ranges from 2D pieces to spatial installations, driven by experimentation and craftsmanship. I draw inspiration from discovering new materials and techniques, with color playing a significant role; I love working with bold contrasts.
Recently, I've focused on the overconsumption of textiles and fast fashion. By repurposing discarded textiles, I demonstrate that reclaimed materials can regain value. This large floor/wall tapestry, shaped like a sweater, is made from discarded sweaters. I unraveled these sweaters, returning them to their original state as balls of yarn, and then used this yarn to tuft the artwork. With this work, I aim to evoke wonder and create awareness about the "textile mess" we, as humanity, produce.
