Through Blind Eyes

Ingrid Staicu is an interior architect whose graduation project "Through Blind Eyes" explores how spatial design can become more inclusive by engaging senses beyond vision. Informed by extensive research and personal experience, her work challenges the dominance of visual aesthetics in architecture by prioritizing tactile and spatial perception, particularly for individuals who are visually impaired or blind.

Through sensory-driven design strategies such as textured surfaces, intuitive spatial orientation, and furniture inspired by the Braille alphabet, Ingrid reimagines the built environment as one that speaks to all users, not just those who see. These tactile elements do not only aid navigation, but they also create meaningful interactions that enrich the spatial experience for everyone.

Her project questions conventional standards in interior architecture and advocates for spaces that communicate emotionally, functionally, and inclusively. By shifting perspective and inviting users to experience space differently, "Through Blind Eyes" reframes interior architecture as a powerful medium for empathy, awareness, and human-centered design.
