Murder for Dessert

Euan, an illustrator and animator from Ireland, adeptly integrates movement and humor into his light-hearted and often whimsical hand-drawn style, whether for animated works, comics, or editorial illustrations. Central to much of Euan’s work is the embrace of the mundane and the humor inherent in everyday life, as he believes their beauty is frequently overlooked. He posits that mundanity is not synonymous with dullness, and humor is not confined to joyous occasions. Beyond animation and illustration, Euan is also passionate about scriptwriting and mysteries, which frequently permeate his creative endeavors.

Murder for Dessert

In "Murder for Dessert", Euan combines his enthusiasm for animation and murder mysteries to craft an interactive and captivating experience. Frustrated with the diminished attention spans and the dual-screen phenomenon associated with streaming, Euan sought to counteract this by creating a work that captivates the audience through dynamic art styles, concealed clues, and an engaging narrative.

The narrative starts with a murder in a secluded mansion in the English countryside and follows Detective Van Bruijn as he navigates the various suspects’ accounts, each depicted in a distinct art style. The work draws inspiration from classic rubber hose animations such as "Steamboat Willie" and "Betty Boop", noir detective stories, "The Muppets", and more, to reflect the personalities of the different storytellers. Comprising seven short animations, "Murder for Dessert" aims to generate sufficient suspense and intrigue to capture and maintain the audience’s attention as it explores these diverse worlds.
