Shoes Were Made For Talking

As a spatial designer, Esmee Doorten explores how design can preserve memory and emotional connection through storytelling, projection, and found objects like worn shoes. Her work reflects on the personal value of things we often throw away. Inspired by themes of identity, movement, and transformation. She shows that design is not only functional or aesthetic. It’s deeply human. She combines video, sound, and tactile elements to create immersive installations where stories live on. Every shoe carries a journey. Through them, we step into someone else’s world and perhaps look at our own with more care.
