Presence IV

Djordi Komrij (1999) is a queer multidisciplinary artist whose work mainly revolves around encapsulating the traces that people leave behind. He questions how we perceive the space around us and the people in it, and how the body stores and recollects memories. Through fragmented depictions of his body, Komrij combines the diverse ways people take shape in others, while simultaneously searching for how his own presence takes form.

The warping of air around a flame—the way it exists even though others can pass through it, a grey area between existing and non-existing—serves as a source of inspiration for his approach to making. Creating installations using paintings, photographs, and sculptures, Komrij attempts to reconsider how our presence lingers when we’re no longer here, while also sharing his appreciation for the time he has shared with all these different people.
