Temple of Textiles
"Obroni Wawu," the clothes of the dead white man.
In today's world, buying and discarding clothes has become so easy and normalized. We rarely think about where our clothes come from, or where they end up. Most of them are thrown away, often shipped to countries like Ghana. There, the overflowing piles of discarded clothes are called "Obroni Wawu," meaning "dead white man's clothes."
This installation is built from those discarded garments. Each one was once worn by someone, carried a story, and had a purpose. Now, woven together, they form a space where we can take our time and show our love and appreciation. Think about the power of our consumption choices.
What do I really need? What impact do my choices have?
Temple of Textiles is not here to shame you, but to open a conversation. It's a place to reconnect with the things we wear and the systems behind them. I hope it encourages people to think, to feel, and maybe even to change how we consume.
Take it in. Touch, smell. Notice the colors, the textures. Let it stay with you.
