How can we add design value to fabrics made from the textile waste?
On 29 and 30 October, we will be presenting the results of DreamWeave: an artistic and academic research project exploring the artistic potential of sustainable and circular yarn for fabrics.
During the project, local designers, students, textile technicians and researchers investigated how textile waste streams from Groningen could be given design value. In addition, local designers and textile technicians were trained during the research in the digital design of fabrics, using Groningen’s textile waste as a starting point. Besides, current and future business models for circular textiles were researched.
The result is a collection of new fabrics that demonstrates that circularity is not only a technical challenge but also a creative design issue. DreamWeave brings together design, technology, materials research and entrepreneurship in a single study into the future of textiles.
The exhibition features both the industrially woven prototypes and the semi-manual weaving tests and samples that formed part of the development process. Together, they illustrate how ideas, experiments and materials research can lead to new industrial applications.
Opening
29 October | from 14:00 pm
Koepelzaal, Academie Minerva Praediniussingel 59
During the opening, the designers involved in the project will be present to explain their designs and the process behind them. A great opportunity to take a closer look at the materials, ask questions and engage in conversation with the creators and researchers.
Programme
14:00 pm | Doors open
14:15 pm | Opening by Niels Faber, Professor of Transitions towards a Circular Economy
14:30 pm | A tour of the textile works and meetup with the designers
We look forward to welcoming you and exploring together how waste can become a raw material for new creativity.
