Alkos

Much of Lithuanian pagan history exists only in fragments - lost, undocumented, erased. “Alkos” explores the experience of cultural loss and the attempt to reconnect with a fragmented past. It’s where I piece together what remains and reimagine what no longer does.

How does one visually depict a history that has almost no image attached to it? How does one find a connection to something so far away? Through illustration and atmospheric imagery, I depict the gaps, drawing from historical sources while also taking liberties to envision a world that might have once existed - the way my ancestors might have seen it, felt it, imagined it.

A version of myself serves as the protagonist, moving through dreamlike landscapes, ritual, and transformation, driven by a longing for belonging. “Alkos” is a personal meditation on identity, memory, and the creative act of reaching toward something that can no longer be fully recovered. It is also a story of exploration - of stepping into this imagined world, of searching through the silence, and finally, at the end of that search, finding a genuine connection.

The film is an act of love - an attempt to honor what was lost by giving it new form, new image. It is a bid for connection across centuries, using the only tools available - imagination, research, and the persistent hope that somewhere in the act of creating, something true can be found.
