Through Medusa's Eyes

Through Medusa’s Eyes is an audiovisual work about the lived reality of women’s safety. The project combines real audio recordings of women sharing their experiences with interviews with men, creating a conversation between different perspectives.
Laurie Ann is an interdisciplinary artist and graduate of Academie voor Popcultuur Minerva. She works with visuals, spoken word, and music. She continued her artistic development through the Master’s programme MADtech, where she explores how technology, sound, language, and image can come together to create meaningful art.
Women’s safety is often seen as women against men, but Through Medusa’s Eyes was created to challenge that idea. Many men are unaware of the daily experiences women go through. By sharing these stories and starting conversations about them, the project hopes to create more understanding, reflection, and change.
The project was inspired by the mythological figure of Medusa, not as a monster, but as a symbol of survival. Through this new interpretation, Laurie Ann uses Medusa’s gaze to confront society with experiences that are often ignored, minimized, or seen as normal. Through music, spoken word, and audiovisual experimentation, she creates immersive work to start a conversation with the audience.
