About Machine of Love and Devotion
In this multidisciplinary exhibition, Yuqi Wang explores the often unrecognised time and labour invested in domestic life. Drawing on visits to rural households around his hometown in China Wang examines the kitchen as a gendered space where care, repetition and sacrifice become part of everyday routines. Abandoned kitchenware is transformed into sculptures drawing on visual and bodily forms physically and symbolically associated with the passage of time - clockwork gears, hourglasses, and pregnant bellies, subtly alluding to the human body. Through sculpture, photography and installation, the exhibition invites us to reflect on domestic labour, embodied memory and the possibilities of reclaiming time.
The exhibition will open on Friday November 20th, at 15.00 hours. After that the exhibition is open from Monday 23 till Friday 27th of November: 08.00 - 21.30 (Friday the building closes at 18.00).
